Guest Speaker Black Tie Dinner with Dr David Starkey CBE

Format

Ulster Reform Club members Mr Jack Steele and Major Paddy Shields are honoured to host a dinner with our special guest and speaker Dr David Starkey CBE.

Dr Starkey is one of Britain’s leading historians, well known for his bestselling books and widely watched history documentaries for television focusing on the Tudors and the monarchy. He was awarded the WH Smith Prize for Biography in 2001 and appointed CBE in 2007 for services to history. Dr Starkey enjoyed a distinguished academic career for many years at the University of Cambridge and London School of Economics. In addition to his documentaries, he made frequent guest appearances on television and radio debates such as The Moral Maze and Question Time.

A passionate defender of free expression, Dr Starkey now hosts a popular YouTube channel, David Starkey Talks, where he delivers illuminating lectures on history, the monarchy, politics and Parliament, and where he regularly interviews people of interest. His shows receive hundreds of thousands of views and comments. His vast knowledge and historical perspective mean it has become a ‘must-watch’ channel for anyone seeking to be informed about our past, our constitution, domestic and international politics, and the important and sometimes controversial issues of the day.

“History, properly taught,” writes Dr Starkey, “is the basis of our civilisation. I’ve tried to teach it with books, television documentaries and historical exhibitions. But the best way to communicate big ideas is by lectures.”

We are delighted to welcome Dr Starkey to deliver a special talk for members of the Ulster Reform Club and their guests. It will be a thrilling opportunity to hear one of our most respected historians and sharpest commentators. There will be time for audience questions at the end of the talk.
