The Tour
Club Member Diana Fitzsimons, former Property Committee Chair of the
Belfast Harbour Commissioners, will guide us through the new City Quays Gardens explaining how it was planned, designed and implemented on a site that had planning permission for offices.
Then a professional guide will take us through the Harbour office explaining its history and the fine art collection that is rarely viewed by members of the public. The first part of this building dates back to 1851 and it has been described as a building in the style of an Italian palazzo. Downstairs is a heritage room and upstairs there are a number of grand rooms which are used by the Harbour Commissioners and for other functions.
Then we will visit the adjoining Sinclair Seamen’s Church which dates back to 1857 and is unique because of its Venetian style interior and artifacts of a maritime nature. A member of the church will give us a guided tour.
